چکیده

This paper exemplifies the similarities in Time Warp and computer architecture concepts and terminology, and the continued trend for convergence of ideas in these two areas. Time Warp can provide a means to describe the complex mechanisms being used to allow the instruction execution window to be enlarged. Furthermore it can extend the current mechanisms, which do not scale, in a scaleable manner. The issues involved in implementing Time Warp in a CPU design are also examined, and illustrated with reference to the Wisconsin Multiscalar machine and the Waikato WarpEngine. Finally the potential performance gains of such a system are briefly discussed.

Benefits from Semi-asynchronous Checkpointing for Time Warp Simulations of a Large State Pcs Model

Checkpointing overhead is a major obstacle for the effectiveness of Time Warp parallel discrete event simulators. Semi-asynchronous checkpointing is a recent solution to tackle this obstacle for Time Warp simulations on distributed memory systems based on Myrinet. In this solution, checkpoint operations are offloaded from the host CPU and are charged to a DMA engine on board of Myrinet network ...

S a I S T Bo S T O N Using Warp to Control Network Contention in Mermera

Parallel computing on a network of workstations can saturate the communication network, leading to excessive message delays and consequently poor application performance. We examine empirically the consequences of integrating a ow control protocol, called Warp control [Par93], into Mermera, a software shared memory system that supports parallel computing on distributed systems [HS93]. For an as...

High Performance, Ultra-Low Power Streaming Systems

Smartphones are emerging as one of the fastest growing markets, with new devices and improvements in their operating systems taking place every few months. The design of a CPU/GPU for such a mobile devices is challenging due to the users demands for a truly mobile computing experience, including highly responsive user interfaces, uncompromised web browsing performance or visually compelling gam...

Estimating rollback overhead for optimism control in Time Warp

The main performance pitfall of the Time Warp distributed discrete event simulation (DDES) protocol has been widely recognized to be the overoptimistic progression of event execution into the simulated future. The premature execution of events that eventually have to be \rolled back" due to causality violations induces memory and communication overheads as sources of performance ineeciencies. O...

Memory Compression Coordinated and Optimized Prefetching in GPU Architectures

Traditionally, GPU architectures have been primarily focused on throughput and latency hiding. However, as the computational power of GPUs continues to scale with Moore’s law, an increasing number of applications are becoming limited by memory bandwidth [1]. Also, data locality and reuse are becoming increasingly important with power-limited technology scaling. The energy spent on off-chip memo...
